I thought to be a nympho, you actually had to HAVE sex. What sex is bernice having? Making out with Nil in the park isn’t having sex, it’s just kissing. I’m worried about how little I worry.

I’ve often wondered why a young woman who is preoccupied with sex, might be considered by some to be a nymphomaniac; yet a young man, is “just sowing his wild oats”.

Personally, today I am voting for exhibitionist because she has the disgusting habit of broadcasting all her personal business for the universe to see and hear. I hate people like that. Back on June 1st, Bernice claimed that her spontaneous kiss with Nil was “delusive,” meaning “giving a false or misleading impression.” If GnK are not misleading us readers, this is at the heart of Bernice’s quandary. She has been misleading Nil while holding secret romantic feelings for Jack.

She exhibits many characteristics of a high functioning borderline personality. Gnk have her escalating in her histrionic descriptions of herself. Temptress on May 25th. Floozie on the 27th. A sybarite on the 28th. Now she sees herself as a frustrated spinster; an opinion held by several commenters. Nancy seemed distracted during her conversation with Bernice in May. This appears to continue this week. Distracted by her physical discomfort, her advice in panel two would seem open to double meaning. Does she mean how Bernice “could” have behaved so far? Or how she “could” behave in the future? Bernice once again escalates her self-opinion to “nymphomaniac.”

Recall that it was Nancy herself, that started all this by introducing Bernice to Nancy’s opinion of reading for pleasure. “Forbidden Atlantis: A Tale of Tide-Crossed Lovers.”

Nymphomaniacs are not scanty clothed strumpets throwing themselves at men. They are not even just women, although it’s no problem with men being sexually super aroused. It’s a sexual disorder whose appearance can be in nuns to strumpets although even that perspective is based on “male” definitions. Bernice is hardly a nympho even in the stereotypical definition. She has healthy desires, but being confused on her virginity because of unresolved repression issues she is drawn as hilariously overacting. Take a deep breath.

I’m sorry, but I find it faintly disturbing that so many are seriously psychoanalyzing comic strip characters whose every thought and deed are the conscious decisions of the artist/writer. On top of that, these analyses are made of female characters created by a male artist. Then again, it could be that Greg Evans has exactly this kind of reaction in mind. If so, well done, Greg!

Poor Nancy and the rest of the family. I’ve seen every example of what menopause does to women. For some it’s just a bump in the road, hardly any effect. But I’ve seen some that totally lost their minds for a few years. And it’s funny how it effects libido. Some completely lose it, some stay the same, some has it double. One of the mysteries of the female condition.

I think I now know the real reason Bernice can’t live in her own house: Luann can’t be involved in mother/daughter discussions with Nancy anymore because their relationship has gotten so awkward. And Bernice and Luann can’t confide in each other because their relationship has gotten so awkward. So now Bernice has Nancy to confide in. This is the writer’s awkward solution to the awkward problem.

This “interest in boys” seems to have come on rather suddenly. And in a rather extreme, even unhinged, form.
