I don’t know why people get so worried about children and nudity. It does children no harm at all to see what people look like without clothes. Indeed, there are still plenty of children who grow up in societies where very little clothing is worn, and they seem to survive.
The only thing that saved “Smokey and the Bandit” from an R rating was a truck air horn being blown over Jackie Gleason saying “f*** off.” You can see his lips saying it.
I suspect Shannon has seen people smoke unless she’s been kept inside and never allowed out. Grocery stores, fast food, hospitals, QT, any place people work will have designated smoking areas not far from entrances where smokers congregate. Also there are those stands to put the butts in before entering the building that are definitely not trash bins.
Dear little shannon ♡. This reminds me of when I was little and reading the indications in the TV guide I was reading heroism instead of eroticism because I didn’t understand what eroticism was.
You don’t necessarily notice that people don’t smoke on television anymore until you go back and watch reruns of a show like Perry Mason where everyone smoked like a cheap furnace.
Besides the fact that smoking is not a program warning for movies anywhere in the world, making this whole conversation ridiculous, Shannon knows what sex, nudity and swearing is, so why would they be uncomfortable with telling her what smoking is? Maybe they think it should be included as a warning for movies and they want to publish their personal opinion. Maybe they want us to believe that she has never seen anyone smoking, which is a really unbelievable stretch. Maybe they visited an Amish town on Saturday and have decided to incorporate those values into their comic. Hard to say what it is when they miss the mark by this far.
My parents were at one time both smokers. But they gave it up when I was young. And I never saw them with a cigarette again. As my Dad said “I’ve smoked since I was thirteen; that’s long enough.”
A movie will be R Rated for Violence, language or sex. I don’t mind the nudity and sex, not too bothered by language, but I cannot watch anything too violent.
Shannon knows all about sex, nudity and swearing from the one time she walked in on Toni and Brad in bed. If she would have let them finish the act, she might have witnessed them smoking too. : )
I know I am in the minority on this, but I wish movies could be made without “nudity” and “bedroom scenes” and “bad words” and “unneeded love interests” and take out the filler stuff and put in more what the movie is geared for. The movie might be 20 minutes in length and make no money but for today’s people with short attention spans it would be a bonus!!!
In Arthur C. Clarke’s The Ghost From the Grand Banks, there’s a character who has made zillions of dollars by devising a process to remove, digitally, smoking from old movies. In the story, by that future time, smoking had become so rare, and considered so abhorrent, that audiences watching a scene featuring some people smoking would be unable to concentrate on the dialog because they were so aware—or titillated or horrified or disgusted—by the smoking.
(As I recall, the other zillionaire got rich by devising a universal solution to the Y2K problem…)
We’ve never prevented our child from watching stuff with sex and nudity in it. That’s just natural human behavior. We’re more concerned about gratuitious depictions of cruelty and gore.

“Smoking” is something that often precedes the word “Hot,” Shannon.
Plus it’s also something you’re not allowed to do anymore, ANYWHERE.
And it sometimes can be found on the water, according to the guys in Deep Purple.

“Smoking” in this case is not used as a verb; it’s an adverb/adjective depending on what Toni interrupted from Brad’s continuation …

Another common disclaimer is “Adult Situations,” which I take to mean the film includes people talking about their mortgages and interest rates.
