Bets sure is excited. I’d think she’d want to check out the camper van before she gets ahead of herself.

Gunther doesn’t seem too thrilled about the prospect of a long road trip with Bets. I wonder if the camper van will actually start breaking the two of them up?

And the week ends with Gunther totally confused. Since Irma didn’t buy the van (or did she?) and Bets hasn’t bought the van this talk of a road trip seems premature, as well as highly optimistic since neither of them have real money.

Hawaiian destination? or mommy’s anxiety for Gunther?

I don’t think Gunther can handle a road trip, he’s a home boy who has to be dragged along to get him going.

And of course, since this is a golden opportunity to be alone, surely Bets will take care of broadcasting the entire trip live in exchange for likes.

Well no cliff hanger this week. Maybe a surprise on Monday. This arc needs something! 8^ \

Bets is planning an escape without looking at the vehicle. For all we know the van is a Fix Or Repair Daily model.

Gunther – Go with this! Gunther needs a woman strong enough to transport him out of the cage he’s been in his whole life.

Hmmm…can she afford the camper van? Or is Irma buying it for them? Or renting it? They do rent them, but the rental fee is astronomical – about the same rate as a RV, just much smaller. I’d rather buy a tent and just camp at that age. I camped throughout my childhood and during my college years and early years with my young hubby and children and slept on air mattress which was comfortable to sleep on. The only downside is going to the bathroom from the tent especially at night. I always tried to reserve a tent site next to the bathroom (no outhouse. A regular public restroom with plumbing and showers). It was not so bad.

That is if the camper van hasn’t already been sold, and it doesn’t break down on the way out of town.

That watermark is actually a great detail. Other than that, I’m kind of glad this is somewhat done. Hopefully, we’ll move on next week for the holiday.

Bets you better check the tires Irma probably deflated them or slashed them with a knife.

My impression is that Irma and her first husband bought the van, but never had a chance to use it, and she is likely giving them the van or asking a token price. All of that aside, it’s a comic strip, and we would all succumb to boredom if all the details of the van purchase, etc were part of the strip.

Gunther is such a wet washrag of a person. He supposedly loves this girl but not enough to lift a finger to keep living with her.

Go on the road trip with her, Gunther. Maybe it’ll finally make you a man capable of standing up to your domineering mother and useless stepfather!!

Gotta feeling there will be a new arc on Monday. Maybe another Tiff/Kip story line, or another problem with Bernice.

I Imagine bets has a fair amount of Youtube money saved. I wonder if a van purchase would be a considered a business expense if you vlog about your summer sanctuary.

If Bets says “Peru”, it would be the ultimate joke that would kill Gunther. It’s nice to see Bets so happy and full of energy, but Gunther is probably having a bad flashback of his history with Rosa and how it ended out (and I’m sure Irma knows it was going to happen). Hopefully this road trip, if it ever happens, will be inside the country and to see the biggest summer cosplay events. It would be interesting for both of them and expand their contacts in that world. But it could also become a very tense experience.

OK, maybe she should suggest something more ambitious — like driving to Tiera del Fuego at the southern tip of South America.

All comes down to, can Gunther bear to be away from mommy. Mommy just showed she can bear to be away from Gunther.

Gunther and Bets are so much alike in temperament, aren’t they?

This is something my kids do where they make statements out of context assuming everyone is already aware of what’s happened.

And the van is paid for, registered, insured, taxes paid and licensed by whom, and spending money is coming from where? To take a line from an old song “How do they know where they’re going if they don’t know the way.” Or will it be a Comic-Com trip with a line from Capt. Kirk when asked by a crew member “Where are we going now” and he replies “Out there”.

How far? Where does the road end? (Warning: if you see a sign that says Mt Doom 15 miles turn around.)

i would expect that Bets would be doing the driving. she is the alpha of the two.

Next week will Gunther say no? Will Luann try to date Piro? Will Tiffany catch Kip naked in the pool? Will Shannon ruin Brad’s house? Stay tuned.

Gunther is terrified of getting too far away from Mom and Dad—which is more than a couple of blocks.

Gunther doesn’t have to pack up all his stuff. He’s coming back there to live when school starts. Does Bets think they are both going to be permanently living in the van???

Bets need to learn to listen

so many doomsayers and negativity …. let the kids have their fun for a while, however Greg & Karen make it come to fruition. Try to enjoy the strip without over-psycho-anaylzing every minute aspect.

I can to totally understand Bets’ excitement and especially relief yesterday and today. Sometimes it’s the unknown that’s worse than anything. Now she knows where she stands with Irma (who said that Gunther loves her and so she does too); and the issue is Al not Irma. Irma gave Bets’ an idea for how to be together and it spells freedom.

Am I the only one who thinks Gunther will decide not to go with Bets? He’s never said he’s unhappy with his life in the Gulag. He goes along with things until he doesn’t.

Gunther, I believe is hot to trot……….

He doesn’t even get to decide if he and or where wants to go?

I would love to see Gunther stand up for himself one time, without getting angry. Just firmly tell Bets and Irma what HE wants to do with his life, without their influence. I’d bet he wants to finish college as soon as possible and get a good job.

Gunther must think he will be carrying Bets on the road trip. That is why he asks how far they are going. She is not light.

This arc is approaching trouble. Time to switch to Tiffany’s midnight skinny dip in the mansion’s pool.

Now we know what happened with Gunther’s parents. Irma bought a van and told Mr. Berger they were going on a road trip.

I was trying to remember a book titled “Seven One.” Then I realized that’s today’s date.

So Gunther gets no say in this matter?

I hope this isn’t going to be a Gabby Petito/Brian Laundrie trip.

Reading some of these comments, a lot of commenters is taking Luann too seriously. Greg can’t put every single detail in his comic. Gunther doesn’t look too happy. Or how much the van’s gonna cost. Bets should’ve been paying rent. Geez, it’s a freaking comic. Not real life.

I’m thinking they’re going all the way. When the camper is rockin’….

It looks like I was right when I said, Gunther won’t like this idea.

this wont end well she will want to do her blogging and streaming everywhere which will either frustrate gunther to no end OR there will be no signal and so she will be stuck with gunther and no streaming fans and it will split them up that way. either way this is the start of the end for them.

People wonder about Gunther’s desire to leave with Bets. But we’re talkin about a guy who traveled the world with a former girlfriend after high school and only returned because her values were too different from his. Going cross-country, in comparison, doesn’t seem like a big deal. (Plus, the boy has yet to realize they’re going in a camper and suspects, naturally, it’s by car.)

How far do you want to go?

Here’s my call. They can afford the road trip, but not without a little extra help, so Les will somehow invite himself along (as a strictly platonic third wheel, mind you) and without the rest of the strip’s cast to draw off some of the negative energy, personalities will clash on all sides. I wouldn’t even be surprised if someone ends up getting left behind in East Armpit, Tennessee.

The first panel indicates that Gunther already got the news (from AL?) that Bets is out of the Gulag, even though he doesn’t know about Irma’s plan for the summer road trip.

He doesn’t look happy that Bets has to leave, but note that he isn’t packing HIS stuff, so he’s not unhappy enough to leave with her.

I’m sure many of you ain’t getting this. Mom and dad never made the trip, but they had the van, with no restrictions on where it was parked…

Is she excited to spend more time with Gunther, or because a road trip will make an interesting event for her blog?

Bets is bored, her blog is going nowhere with the current living standards. Road trip means views, if Gunther is with her additional content for her blog. Cares for him and his attention yes, but less important.

Road trips make or break a relationship quicker than anything.

Panel 1 seems to be lacking punctuation, but the other panels make up for it.

Bets is already making the best of a problematic situation (the enforced “road trip”), and Gunther is, as usual, cautious. But if he goes with the flow, it might just turn out that Bets’ enthusiasm is warranted!
