For a minute there, I thought we were going to end up with a panel with just Piro in the foreground, and Bernice’s dialogue obscured in the background as she continued rambling on about the differences between quiet and silence. Wall Of Text, TV Tropes calls it.
The last thing on earth Bernice needs is a needy man who will lean into her desire to fix everybody. And the last thing he needs is a woman with a savior complex.
It really made no sense to me that Piro called B (who is living with Luann and her parents) for ‘alone time’, unless he’s living on the street now. Where IS he living? He used to crash on people’s couches — is he back to that?
Well Bernice is doing better than Luann and Tara. She catches herself yakking away and stops. She understands Piro didn’t come to see her to have her talk his ears off. She is revising herself while these idiot Pitts CC girls only repeated themselves. That’s why Piro put them in his rearview mirror.
Yet one more indication Bernice is not going to be very good in the psychology field. Well, lemme rethink that notion. Bernice would certainly fail at psychiatry, not necessarily the psychological field. GnK never did write a strip revealing the results of B’s experiment.
Impressive. Thanks to Piro, Bernice might have that character development arc I had almost given up hope on. Compared to when she hosted him in her dorm room, now Bernice understands she talks too much and stops, ashamed of herself. Before, she just talked without any care! Dunno if Piro will tell her about his life, if they will watch a movie or if they will just be quiet. But it’s exciting to see that there’s a tiny bit chance Bernice might manage to not ruin everything somehow. Also, I wonder what the Degroots will think about all of this.
Well, Bernice didn’t disappoint. I figured she’d overdo the psychobabble, but I am glad she was smart enough to read Piro’s expression and stop. His response is fun. Wonder if we’ll get his story. Or if he leaves his scarf, again, only to have Luann find it and have a jealous rant. Too far in the future, maybe. For now, interesting…. ;-)
1) Bernice immediately goes into semi-gushing “Chatty-Cathy” mode upon the mere sight of Starhead. But, he’s NOT Rudely leaving like he did with Luann and ‘Cuz Tara. So he either “thinks” that Bern can “help” or he’s got the semi-hots for her. Or BOTH. Two things equally BAD.
2) And “Alone?” Two single young adults alone? In somebody else’s house? Uninterrupted? In THIS comic strip? HA, HA, HA! Good Luck!!!
So. Who’s gonna show up first, Frank, Nancy, Luann, Puddles, or Tara’s (And Starhead’s) Cousin Stella, fresh out of jail and looking for easy mark?? ;-)
Piro is being rude again. You don’t invite yourself to someone’s home then not talk to them. If he wants to be alone, he should go some place with no people.
So what happened to the relationship between Bernice and Nil? Is Nil going to join the other characters that have gone down the memory hole, like Crystal and Knute? If I remember correctly, I think Nil was a bit put off because Bernice couldn’t seem to, errrr……..“get excited” shall we say? Unless she thought she was going to get caught in the act. But Bernice is still (supposedly) his Muse. Will there ever be another strip that shows Bernice in her bag lady Muse outfit, skipping happily off to Nil’s house, where she twirls and flits and leaps around like Tinkerbell on speed, in order to “inspire” him?
Interesting that Piro was able to articulate his need to Bernice, who immediately (if imperfectly) tries to fulfill it. Luann and Tara, on the other hand, already made up their minds what Piro needs. It will be interesting to see where this meeting goes….
What are Nancy and Frank’s rules on the girls having guys there when they are not home? Bern seems to be taking liberties here. And her returning to home is long overdue.
This is the first time I’ve seen any expression except his usual stoic look on his face – sort of side-eye in panel 2, and (a very) small smile in panel three.

So Piro calls up Bernice and asks if he can come on over for some quiet time? Isn’t it the most quiet when you’re alone?
It looks like Bernice is excited to have him there and can’t shut up.
.
I wonder what Piro’s real plan for going there is?

Piro, why don’t you just go to the Manse if you want quiet time? There’s nobody there—except the armed guards.

Bernice is still under Piro’s spell (whether she wants to be or not). He quietly sticks it to her, and she responds.

Two takeaways here:
1) Bernice immediately goes into semi-gushing “Chatty-Cathy” mode upon the mere sight of Starhead. But, he’s NOT Rudely leaving like he did with Luann and ‘Cuz Tara. So he either “thinks” that Bern can “help” or he’s got the semi-hots for her. Or BOTH. Two things equally BAD.
