Looks like working in a field where she was responsible for the wellbeing of others (mainly small children) has prepared Luann for such an emergency situation; for once, she actually seems to know what she’s doing.

This guy does not know what he’s doing. He hasn’t even checked the victim for breathing or heartbeat & he’s already to start chest compressions

She should be calling 911 or asking someone else to do it and starting CPR if she knows it. Maybe this guy knows what he’s doing, but they still need EMTs and an ambulance. But…he could be Luann’s next love interest. Someone here mentioned that she might meet a doctor while visiting Mrs. Horner in the hospital — this officious fellow student might be more age-appropriate.

That dude looks like the kid who Luann tutored and used her suggestions to get on the podium in that prose contest. Looks like Luann to the rescue this week!

Every one of those people has a phone in their pocket and nobody is calling 911?

Oh no… I’m sad they went this way with the story. We don’t want to lose Mrs. Horner.

They need to call 911 right away. Is there some emergency medical team on the college campus?

I really hope they don’t kill off her character.

These are the moments that define us. Luann spent most of last week speculating on her future potential. And now, she will realize it.

If memory serves, Luann once saved Bernice.

I say, let HER handle things as opposed to allowing the Grape Ape to crush poor Mrs. Horner.

A classroom FULL of young adults who spend 99% of their waking hours on their smartphones and NOBODY Immediately calls 911?

Guessing narcolepsy or just winded and fainted.

Who is the guy in the Letter jacket, and yes Luann does seem to what she doing.

Saving lives does seem to run in Luann’s family.

Our CPR instructor told us to point at someone and say, “You! Call 9-1-1!”

Who knew? Luann knows first aid. But of course. She worked at an after school program and staff is required to take first aid class and be certified. Same as us teachers. Luann is correct. Don’t assume she needs CPR the first thing.

I suspect we’re witnessing Luann’s first realization that medicine is her calling. Maybe a paramedic.

Who is that big oaf? Hope he won’t be Luann’s latest love interest.

Maybe the prediction by Catherine Creamer Saturday will be right: Luann just dreaming all this.

This might be another career choice for Luann—as a paramedic.

Are we seeing hints of the beginning of Luann’s future?

Yes, call 911, but check her breathing and pulse before starting chest compressions. If she only fainted you do not want to do that.

But looking at where Mrs. Horner’s hand is, I am thinking

a) that as suggested yesterday, this is in Luann’s dream

or

b) Mrs Horner is giving them a lesson that they will always remember.

(whether that would be a good idea is a bit doubtful)

But, is this a dream? That was a rapid shift from Luann sleeping to Horner on the floor.

1. Mrs. Horner maybe a DNR- Do Not Resuscitate.

2. CPR on the elderly often does more harm on the elderly— broken ribs

Wasn’t that big lug’s name Hale or somethin like that? I’m hopin that Luann doesn’t get hooked up with him. He copied a lot of her ideas wrote a story an beat her out in th contest with mostly her own words

To be fair……we do end up not seeing quite of bit of certain characters anymore. Especially Miguel, Stuart, Claudia, Prudence, Zane, Rosa, Dirk, Aaron, and even Quill. Not to mention old original characters from when the comic started publishing in the 80’s like Delta, Mr. Fogarty, and Crystal…….they just straight up disappeared. And not once we had any deaths in the comic. I know none of you want to see any deaths…….but that’s reality of life sadly. T_T I’m not saying it really is the end for Mrs Horner…..but be prepared for an ultimate ending of a character for once. Plus this comic did changed a lot over the years.

Ox and Vale get into a roaming fight at The Fuse that carries them into the woman’s locker room. Tiffany has just finished showering and has two towels wrapped about her. Nothing breaks up the fight until Tiffany flashes her breasts (with her back to the readers) saying, “Will this make you stop and think?”

Saturday main panel, 75% of the strip. Last panel is a close up of Ox’s arm which has moved from Vale’s head to now cover his eyes.

I’m tired of making logical predictions that never come true. Going all out for what readers would really like to see.

Awesome Luann! She takes charge of the situation, tells everyone to stay calm and stops Vale before he can do some damage! Let’s hope Mrs Horner just fainted and can recover soon. It’s interesting that only now that the teacher is in danger we can see the faces of her students. I would never have imagined that Vale were in her class, Luann really impressed him. Now it’s very probable that Luann and Tara will go visit her in the hospital and there they’ll meet Piro, or maybe Tara could recognize her aunt among the patients.

This is interesting. The one with the calm head is Luann.

Looks like Mrs. Horner is going to be transported somewhere, like the hospital.

Now, the blank slate arc makes sense, this is where Luann will find her calling. Beautiful.

Will we see Toni, and, her squad, tomorrow? When?

For all we know, this could be a dream Luann is having. She was sound asleep in Friday’s strip and wide awake and writing something in Saturday’s. She may be dreaming she’s the hero.

DON’T PANIC! Could be she just lost her breath. I once got dizzy playing the clarinet as a young, healthy teenager.

In this type situation, the first 2 things to say are “Someone call 911” and “Someone go get the AED”. AED might not be needed but 1) it doesn’t hurt to have it available if required and 2) it gives somebody something productive to do.

I’m very impressed by Luann’s take-charge approach here. I’ll bet she will finally find a career, as a nurse.

Check if she’s breathing first, dude. If you know CPR you know that part.

So how long until the reveal that Luann is still asleep since Friday and this is all a dream of hers, and the story ends with the status quo unchanged? Because this is way too bold a move from G&K, and they love doing cop-outs. But still, a whole lot of respect to them if they defy expectations and this ends up being real.

So, all you guys who immediately shouted “give her CPR” on Saturday, how do you feel about being represented by that meathead today?

CPR on an elderly person can result in a broken breastbone or ribs. Make sure she has a pulse, call 911, do rescue breathing if needed, and unless absolutely necessary leave CPR to the experts.

Breathing (check if breathing, by placing ear over mouth)

Circulation (check pulse. If none, begin chest compressions.)

You do not do chest compressions if the heart is still beating you do not provide air if they are still breathing. First evaluate the patient. WHAT we need is someone like Luann — oh wait THERE SHE IS!!

STOP!— In the name of love. Don’t break her heart. Think it o-o-over.

Call the college office FIRST. They are required to have defib equipment and medical training plus ability to get ambulance/EMTs onto a closed campus.Same applies to any public education institution in California (where Luann is set)

Horner died of boredom from the previous month long “story arc”! Lord knows I almost did!

This arc seems promising. I didn’t realize it could be part of a dream, will have to go back and read that. Dream or not, it may not lead Luann to a career, but it should make her realize that she has many strengths she can draw on. Not a blank slate, just a young woman exploring possibilities.

I would guess Mrs. Horner just got winded from blowing into the instrument. But is does look like Luann is showing her capabilities.

Looks like Luann will have a career change. She will be a paramedic.

I doubt she’ll discover an actual vocation but she may well have a defining moment.

@Sheriff Mordecai do you maintain a database of the characters, such as Vale, to reference for attire coloring (for one’s like him that have so far been portrayed in one outfit, ie his varsity jacket)? …. And considering the amazing pictures I’ve been seeing of this past weekend’s auroras from around the world, (they were gorgeous in the PNW), I hope Greg gives you an opportunity to give us aurora skies, even if only on a Sunday.

Apart from the Bernice incident (which I don’t remember much, but I’ve seen it mentioned a few times), we also had Tara being hit by her cousin’s car. Luann went to check up on Tara while Bernice didn’t dare even look at her. She does stay calm in a crisis (a real one, not nonsense teenage ones) – maybe her hopeless optimism helps her a bit there, don’t know.

The Dude may think he knows what he’s doing, but any chest compression he does would only break Mrs. Horner’s rib cage, doing way more harm than good.

Looks like Luann is checking for a pulse. That’s a good Step One.

My apologies gang. I looked again and that does look like Vale. Maybe this is Luann’s “revenge fantasy dream” where she outshines him this time. He actually might be a clue that this is indeed a dream sequence!

1. Assign someone to alert emergency services; also, this is a public space, there may be a AED available, send someone to get it/inquire for it. 2. Assess the safety of the scene. 3. Assess the person down (breathing? pulse?). 4. If pulse and respirations are present, do NOT initiate chest compressions. 5. If one or both are not present, initiate CPR (if neither present, chest compressions only can be effective; if the AED is present, attach it and let it analyze the heart beat. 6-20. Inquire at your local community center/school/Red Cross to learn all the steps so you can be helpful in an emergency! (shout out to Damar Hamlin and his enthusiasm to help western NYers become CPR certified!)
