“and” what, Bernice?

Bernice is nearly going up in flames with frustration and anger. Sigh. She needs help.

So the truth will come out tomorrow. Will Nancy’s response be WONDERFUL, THANK YOU SO MUCH, BERNICE or will it be more like “Oh, thanks.” And if it the low-key ‘thanks’ how will Bernice take that…

The stakes in this are lower than penny ante poker with a penny raise limit.

Ok, I was wrong. Bernice may now get free rent. (does she pay rent?)

And… Bernice organized your financial records without asking permission. And since you’re so happy about it, she wants to organize your purse next.

I am tired of Bernice. She was actually more likeable when she was a neurotic high school student.

I didn’t but Bernice did say it Luann.

That wasn’t the way I felt it would turn but, as it’s been pointed out to me, Luanne will do the right thing.

Luann stop searching for words and say the truth.

Well, so much for dragging this out a few days.

I really thought it would last until at least Saturday, when it could have been a cliffhanger or a straight up ending to the arc.

Now what are they going to do for the rest of the week?

We are now at day 2, and Nancy STILL hasn’t blown a gasket that somebody went thru her “precious” paperwork.

In fact, she is beside herself with joy that somebody thought enough of her to organized her stuff.

Sorry. But I still find it hard to believe that Nancy will go apesh*t when (And IF) she finds that it was Bernice, not Luann that organized her bookkeeping.

And yeah, yeah I understand the “privacy” thing.

But it’s not like Nancy caught Bernice rummaging thru her purse. :-)

Luann is torn here: she wants to win favor from her mom by taking credit for something she didn’t do. But she also wants to give Bernice credit for actually coming up with the idea and doing all the work. Luann is probably afraid her mom will say “oh, and for a minute i thought my daughter cared enough to help me without me having to ask…i guess not.”

It’s character!…. good character! And I sure hope Luann has it.

Why is Bernice so intent on impressing Nancy and insulting Luann? She has a mother of her own. Somewhere. Is she so screwed up mentally that she is actually trying to alienate Nancy from her own daughter? Will Nancy fall for it?

Bernice has never learned that you do something nice for someone else in order to make their life better and to make them feel good NOT for the pat on the back and the recognition. You are supposed to feel nice when you see how happy Nancy is, not bitter and sore because Nancy assumed her daughter did the good deed. Geez, with the exception of the hopefully long gone Ann Eifel the young lady is the most self-centered character on this strip.

Luann REALLY does not want to admit she did not do it. And Nancy? It is perplexing that she actually thinks Luann organized a complex system that is bookkeeping. Bernice is intelligent enough to figure out how to organize a complex system. I think Nancy overestimates Luann’s abilities. Either that or underestimates Bernice’s. I suppose parents have the tendency to overestimate thinking that is better than doing the opposite. The better question Nancy could have asked is, “Who did this?” rather than assuming and thanking Luann.

Why? Just why?

Tomorrow, Nancy says: That reminds me, Bernice, there something I’ve been meaning to tell you. Now that I’ve gotten used to it, I like the way you arrange the cutlery drawer much better than the way I used to do it.

Good on Luann for not taking credit. Gonna be an awkward week.

How could Luann hesitate for a millisecond to credit Bernice? Why does Bernice have to call attention to herself?

LuAnn should give credit where credit is due—including cleaning the toilets. Actually, I think LuAnn should be doing that on a regular basis. Yes, your mom is tired—do what you can.

I don’t think Luann wanted to take credit for Bernice’s work. But if she even had for a moment the slightest temptation to do so, Bernice’s murderous intent in that “Koff” made her realize that her life is worth more. It’s not just to have her deserved credit, Bernice craves Nancy’s approval, praise and love! Something her parents probably don’t know how to give her, poor thing. Maybe she will from now on take care of the “The Fuse” accounting and (as already hypothesized by others) this will finally lead her to realize that she’s more inclined to that than to psychology.

Why is it so hard to say, “Bernice did it!” ????

Nancy assumes Luann did it because she doesn’t think a stranger, even a friend, should be allowed to look into the family finances and accounts.

Luann is hesitating just for a beat, just one second to bask in her mothers love. Very human. Then passes it over to avoid basking in Bernices rage.

Luann is just caught a little off guard by her mom’s gratitude. Cut her a little slack.

Bernice, why don’t you just let Luann have some credit for once and buzz off?

Well, so much for Bernice being cool. This is definitely true to type.

But I am glad that Luann didn’t take credit and go down the sitcom-like misunderstanding route. Some readers say Luann doesn’t have any personality or character anymore, yet I sure as hell am seeing some right now.

I just have to say that Bernice haters, or Luann doubters have predictable responses, assessing blame in a zero-sum way depending on their perspectives. I think this will sort out in an hilarious way, by arc end, but there is danger here for the relationship, at least the way this arc is being setup. Wait for it before drawing any conclusions.

If Bernice is sharp enough to organize the books, she should be able to take care of the bookkeeping with some training. Maybe then she can start paying for her room and board.

Take the credit Luann! Take it!!

Sigh. Bernice, just “Um, actually..” and say you did it. This “please notice me” nonsense is pretentious. If anything, she should be stepping up to explain her organization system so Nancy can optimize its use instead of standing around waiting for head pats.

I’m tired of Luann. She has the maturity of a 10 yr old. I guess we’re supposed to think that’s amusing.

Bernice looks like such a bitter shrew in the last panel. Give Luann a minute, she will do the right thing and tell Mom that Bernice did the organizing. I wonder if Nancy will be happy to learn that Bernice looked though her business records. I wouldn’t be happy if someone snooped in my private records.

Bernice has such a pretty face in panel 3. Anything to show up Luann (not that hard to do). I liked her better when she was swapping fluids with Nil.

“Bernice, you are now my favorite child. Feel free to make as much noise in our bathroom as you like, and I will now gift you with all 75 volumes of my erotic mermaids books. Luann, uh, can I have my hairspray back?”

Luann is taking too long to give Bernice the credit she is due. It should have happened yesterday, as soon as mom said anything.

I like Bernice.

Luann is now in a lose/lose spot with Bern. No matter what is said ( if anything ) about her dusting and cleaning the bathroom is pointless, and more like an after thought. After all this gushing over the books, there isn’t much you can say about dusting and cleaning. And while, yes Luann should be doing some basic chores or housework at the house, this will have the opposite effect. You don’t want Luann to be a slob, encourage the cleaning … but now you can’t. No matter what Nancy says about it, is less. For Bern, everything is a competition.

All she needs to say is “It was all Bernice.”

Because knowing she helped Nancy out isn’t enough of a reward for Bernice! The DeGroots welcomed Bernice into their home! And Bernice wants a parade for doing something to help!

I’m glad Nancy is happy with the organization, but considering Luann’s organizing skills with her own room, I’m surprised Nancy thought her daughter did it. I hope Luann owns up to the cleaning she did for her Mom and Nancy is happy with that as well.

maybe Nancy is being sarcastic and seeing if her daughter has grown up enough to admit to the truth. As far as Bernice goes, her heart was in the right place. I can understand her feeling slighted for the work she did.

The perfect end to this would be Nancy sitting at the table with the “new” books looking befuddled.

It has been _minutes- since Nancy walked into the room. Why is that concept so hard? Give her a second. OMG she has just been surprised her Mom did not lose it when she saw the intrusion, she was double-whammied when her mother erroneously gave her credit, and is trying to process, and she is not gonna take credit.

Did Bernice do this for recognition or does she just want Luann to be wrong?

I used to like Bernice and I thought she deserved better but now she just seems to be a female Ross Gellar.
