Bernice doesn’t have to tell Luann exactly why…but she can say Piro’s problems are more serious than anything that can be dispelled by a puppet show and that it could even be irritating…“just treat him normally.”
Where to start, indeed. How about telling her the truth, that Piro finds her attempts to cheer him up overwhelming. I know Piro swore her to silence but since he won’t tell Luann to knock it off, she’ll just keep annoying him. Bernice telling Luann might be breaking her promise but it the best thing she can do for him. Getting Tara and Luann to leave him alone will help his emotional state.
I’m just tired of all the characters being so stupid. Luann was so much smarter as a 13 year old then she is at 19.
Hopefully Bernice finds a way to explain to Luann why a puppet show isn’t helpful to Piro without revealing what they talked about. I believe Bernice values her friendship with Piro.
Bernice is now between a rock and a hard place. Do she go along with Luann and annoy Piro? Or do she lose Piro’s trust and tell Luann how annoying she is to Piro?
I love Luann’s well-intentioned naivety. Dunno if Piro will be annoyed by this or not, but it’s always nice to see her creative side at work and Piro’s six little siblings could really enjoy a puppet show. Also, as naive as it is, the idea is said after both Bernice and Luann talk about Piro showing respect for his secret and sincere concern for his health. I know it’s unlikely to happen, but I hope that a future arc will show Piro during a session with his therapist, it would be very interesting.
just tell her that her jokes and whosit’s adventures are a part of whets dragging Piro down. That is true and not really violating Piro’s request not to tell anyone what his problem is
Well, Luann didn’t disappoint, right away firing questions and trying for another solution. She didn’t catch on that there is a reason for Piro’s pulling away. Bernice did well so far, but how will she tell a puppet show won’t help, (unless he brings his siblings along)! I’ve heard it takes a village, but is this the right one?
Maybe Bernice can ask Piro if they would like to see a puppet show. I have no doubt Luann could provide a good one. However, his “secret” would be exposed.
And, now were back to clueless Luann. Bernice CAN you explain to Luann that while Piro DOES need help, a puppet show isn’t going to do it, without blabbing all of Piro’s secrets?
Man are there a lot of noses being pulled around based on the comments I’ve read so far! Still focusing on Bernice’s inability to be a helping person she wants to be, particularly in this situation with Walt/Piro. Personally, I am hoping this will be a complicated, but ultimately a worthwhile relationship/“romance” ensues between Mr. troubled Mysterious, and Miss clueless, but vulnerable to love, and all it portends, Bernice. Of course the pressure of Tara and Luann, not telling. but dealing with her feelings (Bern) and her prepossesive friends. I ain’t predicting, but I hope this arc continues for at least one more week. This not a gag a day strip. There usually is a gag, wrapped up in, and part of a contonually evolving story.
One thing Bernice could do is tell Luann that she should ask Piro if there’s anything she can do to help him and that she should listen to what he has to say. That doesn’t cross any lines she shouldn’t.
Just because Luann’s ambition is to work with kids, it doesn’t mean she expects everyone to respond like kids do. Why must she continually be written so dense and immature?
Kept her promise? the day ain’t over yet! Why doesn’t someone recommend that Luann babysit Piro’s charges….she already has experience with young kids. She can put on a puppet show for them!
Sometimes, puppets are used even with adults, to help with illustrating a problem.Play therapy can also be used to treat issues faced by teenagers and adults. By adulthood, most people have lost their ability to playfully explore themselves. Play therapists are trained to help adolescents, adults, and even the elderly relearn the values of play. Playful exploration has been proven to enhance both cognitive and physical behaviors, and there is a significant amount of research from the fields of neurophysiology and molecular biology that supports play therapy as a valid therapeutic technique for those past childhood. A growing number of organizations and experts are dedicated to play research and advocacy, believing that play is important for people of all ages.Play has been shown to optimize learning, enhance relationships, and improve health and well-being. Adults and children engaged in a therapeutic alliance that focuses on play have an opportunity to choose from a variety of modalities such as movement (body play), sand play, dream play, nature play, social play, pretend (fantasy) play, creative play, storytelling, and vocal play. Play therapy may be used to address a variety of health challenges experienced by adults, especially if incorporated with other treatment modalities. One of the most significant benefits is that play can provide a comfortable and safe environment that may prompt an adult to approach more serious issues. Play therapy can be used to treat (in children or adults):
Dementia, Grief and loss, Post traumatic stres,s Obsessions and compulsions ,Attention deficit hyperactivity, Mood issues, Anxiety, and Depression
Um, yeah. You don’t “cheer up” depressed people. It just makes it worse. The thing to do is just be there for them, sit quietly with them if they wish, and just listen without offering advice.

It’s Piro NOT Shannon with the “problem,” Luann.
And I’d suspect that even Shannon would balk at a “Cheer Me Up Puppet Show.”
