Gee, Bernice. There’s always sunscreen, insect repellent, and sturdy boots to protect ankles from snake bites and provide ankle support to prevent sprains.
Do we know if either Luann or Bernice is working? Not that they shouldn’t have days off, but most college students have summer jobs, whether they’re paying for expenses or internships for experience.
Why are you picking on Bernice? It was Luann who suggested to skip the meadow and Bernice was merely listing reasons to support her suggestion. Bugs bites I can relate to and the uneven terrain which makes you stumble. Not so fun. Meadows are pretty to look at but not be in it.
Maybe it’s not the same thing, but not too far from the Degroot’s house there’s a dog park with lot of lawn. Luann might play with Puddles and, maybe, end up meeting Jack with his dog. It wouldn’t be like running across a meadow, but it could be much, MUCH better. The illustration in the book is really beautiful and Bernice is the usual unbearable killjoy. “She’s fictional”… Bernice is the worst!
But LuAnn will never find her ‘Lance’ if she doen’t get out there and take some risks. By the way Bernice, how’s your relationship going with Nil? Ready to turn the burner back up?
Where is it written, Luann, that you have to spend so much time in your bedroom fantasizing? Get yourself out there and find something that approximizes those stories you’ve been reading.
I agree with Bernice today. Picnics are way overrated! They sound romantic, but you sit on the hard ground, there are bugs, the wind blows everything around and you have to lug all the food and supplies from your car and back. No thanks.
That’s it, Bernice. Stay inside where it’s safe and sound and never, ever, ever, ever, do anything that might remotely have any chance of any risk whatsoever and let whatever fun you might have had pass you right on by. I can only hope you never have kids and do this to them thinking you’re protecting them from all of the world’s nuances.
Luann admires the whimsical, Bernice lives in the real world. I would love to see a story where Luann gets an outfit, and a basket, and goes out to try skipping through a meadow. Last panel would be the trespassing arrest!
Luann needs a realist friend to keep her grounded. But there are times when I think Bernice should try a little running in fields herself. She does have some real concerns there, but one can’t live one’s life in bubble wrap.
I hope it is just a rumor that comments will be discontinued. However, if this is true, please discontinue my subscription and refund the unused portion to my account. There are comics in every newspaper in the country, and I subscribe to two of them on line. There is no value to your site other than being able to interact with other subscribers. This is ONLY if comments will not be allowed on all scripts. If this is just a rumor, please continue to allow me to continue to talk to my friends ( and enemies) . This is the only site I know of that allows full discussions on varying topics and varying opinions. It’s valuable as long as it has comments, it’s worthless without them.
I can’t believe I’m saying this, but I’m not 100% against Bernice here. Don’t get me wrong, her wet blanket attitude sucks in general, but how long has she sat there listening to Luann talk about wanting to do stuff, only to never get around to actually doing anything? She’s got to be beyond sick of it by now. Luann needs to crap or get off the pot already. Few things are as annoying as a person who’s all talk and no action, and Luan fits the bill there perfectly. A supremely boring person who does nothing but fantasize about a life more interesting instead of taking any steps to make it interesting.
I don’t think you’re supposed to “relate” to these type heroines—-just enjoy the adventure! I’m not a fan of a book that claims to be a mystery, supernatural, etc but really is just a thinly disguised romance novel. I’d rather read the real thing. But, we all have our preferences for escape.
No skipping, but if you go tripping through my rain soaked back yard and gardens, you will probably step in some dog poop. Keep a hose and brush at the ready.

Is this strip/arc adding to the personalities of the two characters or beginning to redefine them?

Is Karen killing time this week so she can begin the month of Shannon precisely come August 1st?
Also, picnic basket? I’m no expert of romance covers but they mostly feature a turbulent Wuthering Heights like cover?

I’d rather skip through a meadow with just about any character in this strip than Berenice. Ann Eiffel is about the only one lower on the list.
