Bravo to Greg for honoring the Peanuts creator today. I remember when I was a little a kid, Peanuts was my favorite comic strip. My birthday present would be a few Hotwheels cars and some Peanuts treasury books.. and I was THRILLED! lol I even had a Snoopy pillow cover & sheet set.
I think there’s something just fun and wholesome about the strip that makes it so timeless.
Happy Heavenly birthday, Sparky! All good, no grief. Here’s a little something to celebrate both Snoopy and the season. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sh-J4GSPgAM
A lot of strips today have Peanuts themes. Check out some of the others on GoComics. Alley Oop, Scary Gary, Andy Capp, Phoebe and Her Unicorn, and Dark Side of the Horse all are Schultz homages. I haven’t looked around more than these but I’m going to. Wonder if the authors all got a memo to do this today? :-)
I compare cartoonists to baseball hitters. A .300 average for a cartoonist means he/she is funny three times out of ten – not bad – it’s nearly impossible to be funny every day. In my mind, Schultz was a .600 hitter. Nobody in baseball was that good. I would not rate “Luann” in this way – as Luann cartoons are mostly part of a serial that lasts like a week or more. Luann arcs are more like little mini-plays.
Loved Peanuts as a kid and still do to this day. I had a hand me down sweat jacket with iron-on Peanut character patches all over it, a Snoopy watch, several comic books, a Peanuts sheet set and a Snoopy pencil sharpener just to name a few. I still enjoy collection Peanuts memorabilia on occasion. They are timeless.
Schulz was the model for every syndicated artist. Not only did he do all the comic strips himself, but he was a master of moving the comic strip to different genres and merchandising. Anyone who has seen Snoopy on Ice, knows that there was no limit to the places he would put Peanuts characters. He knew how to handle the foreign marketplaces and how to get his creations into animation specials guaranteed to be shown every year. He has made the list of highest paid dead celebrities every year since he died. In 2022, he comes in at #10.
Just a few hours after the death of Minnesota native Charles Schulz, his readers found a farewell in their newspaper.
Schulz’s final original Peanuts comic strip appeared in Sunday papers on February 13, 2000. It featured Charlie Brown, Snoopy, and a message from the man who brought the characters to life for almost 50 years.
The night before the comic’s final run, Schulz died peacefully in his sleep at home due to complications of colon cancer.
Today is the day comic strip artists say Thank you to their hero. It’s a great day. I cried a little seeing this tribute and the others. The admiration was sincere and well deserved. Thank you Greg Evans, for this beautiful tribute and thank you Sparky, for still being such an important inspiration to all of us comic lovers♡.
Puddles could do the Snoopy leap, he just needs to loose a few pounds and sleep on the roof of his dog house. An engagement or two with the Red Barron would help sharpen his reflexes too.
Thanks Greg for the awesome tribute to the legend in the comic book world Charles Schultz Peanuts would never been the same without this genius of a man.
Love these tributes today! I’m clicking on comics I hadn’t read in years just for these warm, silly tributes— most featuring Snoopy rather than his human, CB.
After our ho-hum Sunday, I suspect that we will return to Gunther’s ghetto. Just don’t let Les anywhere near Tiffany and the bathtub. One slip and that guy will leave an oil slick reminiscent of the Exxon Valdez.
I don’t usually read the comments on this strip as so many are really negative. I hoped today would be an exception, and for the most part it was – the effect Schulz had on many people.

It’s no surprise that Greg honors the Master Charlies Shultz, as it seems that many “Charlie Browns” have found their way into Greg’s Strip.
I’ve always enjoyed the Peanuts comic strip.
It’s just that I wished just for once, that Charlie was “allowed” to kick that darned football.
Or better still, Lucy, who reminds Me of Bernice……, ;-)

Very nice tribute! Oh how I miss the Charlie Brown TV specials being played on Networks regularly.
It was wholesome and honored American values and Christians Principles. It brought people together into a common culture with shared values.
Now, with the internet, divisiveness springs everywhere as iconoclastism pervades all the new media (which infiltrates the legacy media).
