Fat chance of avoiding a cat fight

What a bunch of BS!! Fastforwarding from the airport to the dorm room is just poor writing. They couldn’t have thought up anything more for Stef to say besides We ? Soo disappointing!

Stef is clearly hurt so she’s going on a fat shaming mega attack against Tiff. Sadly, Tiff doesn’t look like she’s handling it well.

Beb was right. Lucy pulled away the ball.. they flaked out of writing a good confrontation scene.

Hey Dez… now would be a great time to ask Stef to pay back the $600 loan. ;)

As I predicted, no fireworks, just some fatshaming from the world least likeable skinny person.

I think Tif is ready to go Mr Miyagi on this girl.

One day back and already Stef is making herself the least liked character in the strip again.

I guess her fathead fits in as well!

You know, this might be the only time that I’d like to see Bernice show up in the strip. Just to snark the h*ll out of Stef.

For those who thought they could reliably predict is made difficult two ways; delibrately misleading proximately caused by the misdirection play, and thus failure to let the story book lead one along rather than projecting their own story book. Oh, I know its hard, but it helps. I know, for example, that any physical confrontation would seem to be imminent, but I also know to let the storybook pull me along. Hey I read this, I don’t write or draw it.

You know?

I’m not even going to try to figure out how We got from the airport to the dorm without the inevitable confrontation.

And by that cheese-eating grin on Stef’s face, it’s almost like Kip never stayed with Tiff the whole Summer. Nor did Kip have a semi-romantic dinner with Tiff. Nor did Kip show up at the LATE at the airport WITH a dressed to kill Tiffany, much to Stef’s annoyance.

In fact, I’m beginning to think that:

Bets never stayed at the Gulag with Gunther during the Spring.

Bets and Gun didn’t go on that road trip only to break up (?)

There was never a non-pool party at Tiff’s house.

Kip never stayed at Tiff’s for the Summer.

It was all a dream.

The question is WHO’S??

It’s getting chippy.

I’m sure Stef meant to say “phat fems”. That’s what I heard anyway.

Kip, if you want our permission to leave Stef, you have it.

I know it’s just a comic strip, and not to expect too much. The storytelling has fallen off a cliff, though. Kip should have cut his losses and dumped Stef a half-dozen times by now, and this strip ought to have broken with my non-violent ways to conclude with Tiff slapping the smile clean off Stef’s moronic face.

There will be tension for awhile here. No quick fix for jealousy.

Wow! I’ve followed this strip for a long time. Enjoy it immensely. I’ve never read the comments before. Why are they so harsh?! I think the writing is great. Not bothered by the airport to dorm room without further commentary…fill in the blanks people!

Well, Steph is showing her low self-esteem with her fat-shaming attacks on Tiffany! How did she get into her cheerleader outfit so fast? More boxes have S.F. What’s up with that?

What an ungrateful little you-know-what. To insult Tiff is basically expected (from Stef, at least that behavior’s a definite, but even aside from her, the Evanses thrived on Tiff-Torture since the high school era and still habitually have characters rip on her with little provocation) but Dez literally gave Stef hundreds of dollars with no strings attached to go to her cheer fest and Stef is calling her a fatso? The nerve!

And as for Kip. If there’s not a break-up midweek I don’t have any hope for this dude. Their time in the privacy hut can’t possibly be worth putting up with her nonsense and rudeness. I think that someone’s going to end up recording Stef’s body-shaming rants and get her cancelled online.

Also, if she does get dumped, cancelled, and still has to stay in the dorm what kind of antics is she going to be up to? I shudder to think.

Like I said: Eee! Eee! Eee! Eee!

The Passive Aggressive Wars, begun they have.

At 8:20 at dinner, Tiff was saying “I’ve learned that a plus figure isn’t a minus, that beauty comes in all sizes”. Why couldn’t she say that to Tiff instead of taking the bait? I like that Kip is not happy with the way Steph is acting. Wouldn’t it be great if he repeated that to Steph? Yes, it would!!

OMG enough with this this this….grumble grumble grumble….

The irony of the situation? At one time this was Tiffany.

I got the email. The promised war over Kip begins, but in real life the insults would result the equivalent of a volcano the size of Mt. Saint Helen blowing up.

Everyone is dressed diffently, so several days have passed. This attack on Tiffany is not really about Tiff – Stef is just really insecure (So much for the third grade psychology).

Here’s hoping this week is the one that brings Steph’s complete exit from the strip.

Well, Tiff is handling it. She is staying back and verifying to DEZ that she heard correctly that it was ‘fat’ Stef said. And Kip is not liking it and this is new from Kip – telling her to stop. He was always passive in the past when she was like this – patronizing, undercutting, etc. While he knows Stef is an insecure girl which is why she does this, he is now deciding he is not gonna let her do this anymore.

Didn’t Kip say he was looking for someone more refined?

The essence of Stef’s displeasure at the airport was made clear. Now the only way she can fight back and try to feel good about herself is to hurl insults which will only further convince Kip of what he’s already feeling. But the big issue now is the whereabouts of Bets who may have texted Dez to tell her that she’s taking a semester off.

In college, can one roommate be removed if the rest want that person out?

Stef is trying to say, without actually saying, that she’d like to to tied to a stake in the parking lot and flogged with live cats.

Hoping this means Steffi is on track to be written out of the strip.

The writing on this strip has weakened so much over the last few years.

Did Stef just call Dez – who lent her money to go to her cheerleading competition – fat? To her face. (And did Stef ever pay back the money?)

Stef has decided to be even more a nuisance than she already was. I was afraid this would happen. At the airport she has seen how much more attractive and refined Tiffany is than her and now she wants to feel superior by insulting her. But I couldn’t imagined she’d involve dear Dez in her insults. What a despicable person! Kip would do well to breakup with her now just because of how she treats her roommates, who are also his friends. Impressive how Stef is able to make puns to insult, she seems to have a long experience in doing it.

More red flags here than Tootle was seeing in his meadow. Kip needs to send her on her way, she’s an absolute horror.

Did Greg and Karen forget their characters’ name???? Steffanie"s last name is Bird. Who is actually writing this strip now?

Oh I think Kip and the others heard it loud and clear Steph. I suggest you shut your pie hole right about now.

Where did Kip, Steph and Steph’s luggage spend the night between the airport pickup and delivery to the quad dorm? It’s obvious that none of the three are dressed as in the airport scene!

I think they should ask the RA if Steffo can move to another floor—oh wait, they can’t afford RAs here, which is so realistic!

An upset Tiff going on a crash diet and getting dangerously thin would be an interesting story so let’s switch to Luann taking up the ocarina or something.

Yep, that’s some classic G&K “misdirection play” as luann1212 says: get into a situation and avoid dealing with it. Well, it’s an expected misdirection because we all know that’s how they write so… a mis-misdirection?

I won’t side up with Sreff… she’s been too mean in the past, so let her swallow it up and be quiet.

I sorta regret there wasn’t a big ugly blowup scene at the airport, but, then, the next scene might have been in the city jail.

I swear, Stef is BEGGING to get her teeth knocked down her throat. She’s still loads better than Ann Eiffel, but man, I’m just about fed up with this ditz’s attitude. She needs a reality check in the worst way.

Hmmmm… imagine the sequence that could have been drawn as they were all leaving the airport and driving back home… That would have been interesting. Talk about a wasted opportunity.

I think Dez will probably do more to shame her than Tif will.

Why don’t Tiff, and, Dez, ask Kip to excuse them, while they talk quad business with Steff. The business of taking that cheerleader outfit Steff is always wearing, stuffing it down her throat, and, “discuss” that fat jibe Steff handed out.

GnK left a wide gap in this scenario (as always?). C’mon, there just HAD to be some airport antics.

I believe I hear Taylor Swift now…“Someday I’ll be livin’ in a big ol’ city, and you, all you’’ ever be is mean…” Some people never get put of high school.

We know Kip is barely staying with Stef. Her mean behavior will only drive him away sooner.

Pretty clearly heading for Kip breaking up with Stef. He’s tolerated her rudeness before, but now we know he doesn’t even think of her as a long-term thing. She probably senses this, and is taking her anger out on Tiff, only it’s a bit much for her to be lumping in Dez, who helped her out.

Body shaming isn’t cool, no matter who’s doing it, but the real issue here is, she’s worried Kip is finding Tiff more attractive than her. She certainly noticed how good Tiff looked in that dress she wore to dinner with her bf. So she’s acting out.

This strip tends to give most characters the benefit of the doubt. The only instance of an unqualified villain I can think of is Ann Eiffel, who has basically been written out (she was, in effect, vanquished by Tiffany). So either that’s where Stef is headed, or she’ll have to come to terms with her issues. We’ll see.

I hope we see more of Stef’s awful behavior and Kip dumps her by the end of the week. Dez will never get her $600 back.

Keep talking Stef you’ll be history sooner.

So this is the famous Stef – yes, I’m new to the strip. Glad it’s finally getting interesting.

She keeps trash talking her friends she’s liable to add some added lip weight as in a fat lip, not to mention friendless.

I don’t think you’re allowed to make fat jokes, Stef.

Tiffany in the third panel could be the dictionary definition of “dowdy”. I am reminded of the Danny DeVito quote in Jumanji (next level). “every single day on every single subway there’s lots of ladies in New York City. And one in five of them, I would marry, no questions asked.” Kip, the odds are in your favor, get out of there.

Stef is pushing her luck a little too far. It might bite her in the butt.

OK, Greg and Karen. Care to explain why there is NEVER a conclusion to ANY arc, and why the fast forward on this one. You are starting to tick off readers, But…I doubt is you care since you always get paid,

As if Tiffany, in her skinny years, wasn’t as crass as Stef is here. If she can’t take it, lose the weight.

If I remember correctly, Luann and Tiff got in a physical brawl in high school gym class when Luann finally blew up at Tiff’s insults. I’m sure she’s feeling the same way now, and it might be time to administer some “discipline” to Steph’s smart mouth. I know, it’s not good to advocate violence, but sometimes you have to give bad tasting medicine to cure the illness.

Yeah, time to kick Stef’s skinny little cheerleading behind to the curb… I like the way Tiff’s character has evolved… still the essence of Tiff, but much more likable now.

In a real life situation Stef would find herself out in the hallway with all of her stuff and a slamming door in her face.

My thought was that Dez knows exactly what Steffi said and is trying to delicately inform her as to what she should be saying.

So where did she go between the airport and the dorm? Their clothes are different.

Two days in a row that the error S.F. initials have appeared. I don’t think Greg or Karen would have made such a major fumble, so who did? Who is involved in this comic now?, and does it explain the changes – novellas for money, ending stories in the middle of stories, long drawn out tiresome character exchanges, out of character behaviors. They lost the consistency that has made the strip interesting over the years.

Now it appears that the new writing staff are going to change Steffanie into a major villain, instead of just the tiresome airhead she was before. Insulting and fat shaming her roommates, and I guess that money from Dez never happened. Anyone who would write her insulting a friend that recently gave her a large sum of money is just not being even remotely logical – even for a comic strip.

Whoever is now doing this writing needs to assign someone to be in charge of consistency-history checks before this comic becomes so totally disjointed that long time readers lose interest.

Do we often forget that this and movies are “Entertainment”? Stop reading so much into everything. Why do many of you have to deconstruct everything?

MMMM! Tiffany and Dez are FINE for comic ladies! Stef has a butterface.

What if the “S.F.” turns out to stand for Stefani Farrell, and Stef is revealed as a long-lost half-sister to Tiffany, by way of Tom and some other partner?

On the bright side, maybe Stef’s behavior will hasten Kip along the road to ditching her. Her behavior is making her appear, insecure and ugly. Not a good look.

You always think of the best lines after. Tiff, “Oh Stef don’t be so hard on yourself, everyone puts on a little after the holidays and on you it’s hardly noticeable”. Passive Aggressive Mike drop!!

Soooo, what happened at the airport? Kip just said “yeah, we.” And Stef said “oh, okay!” And then everyone shared a comfortable, not at all awkward ride back to town?Quit leaving unresolved situations just dangling like that!

Kip needs to kick Stef’s butt to the curb, she’s a total narcissist. Kip deserves better. The girls should eject Stef from their dorm room, she’s bad news..

Something about the way they draw Stef’s mouth just makes her seem unattractive.

I’m not fond of the Stef character but she’s on a roll with some classic “zings”. I would suggest Tiff come back with “I don’t have fat for brains!” retort but I was reading recently that the brain is composed of 60% fat. Maybe she should go with the “air” approach. ;-p

Basically, as an addendumy to what I’ve been contending is that to criticize the story after a conclusion to an arc is written/drawn is essentially being angry because the story did not end the way a reader might wish. Talk about sour grapes! To me it makes more sense, and adds to the fun,to let surprise rule the day, since that is the apparent convention, and if one takes a longer-term view, whatever situation ends up getting resolved or not pretty much the way it would in a normal world’ for example,here) are Bets and Gun over? Or. as I think (and this is my wishfulness it isn’t. So one can focus on why THEY think something is bad writing/drawing, or talk about the story.

SERIOUSLY?!! We’re STILL on all this dorm drama?! IT’S BEEN OVER A YEAR, LET IT GO AND PUT IT TO REST ALREADY! LET’S MOVE ONTO SOMETHING ELSE AND STAY ON IT!!

Tiff deserves it, though. That’s basically the same thing she did in the past to Luann.

There will be a time, when she will be on the opposite end of those comments. Age has a way of finding us, along with extra weight…..

What should have happened is this. Kip should have been drawn with a more horrified expression in the first panel. In the last panel he should’ve said “Are you naturally boorish, or is that something you learned from your parents?” Tiff should’ve given Stef a gut punch. What a conceited bit##.

1) Yes, there is the missing trip to the airport. I have a hunch that is going to be backloaded.2) Meanwhile, Stef is quickly flamethrowing her bridges. Not only is she being a (tw) itch toward Tiffany, but she’s working to alienate Dez, one of the few who has enough patience to give her grace. Soon, there will only be ashes burning.3) Makes a much easier set-up for the inevitable break-up. Almost too easy, with one villain who gets all the blame.

Move on

Well….that’s depressing. Now I’d like to see Ted Bundy meet Stef in this dorm…

Stef, you’re revealing more of your personality, your “true nature”. And, it’s showing you to be unattractive.

We didn’t get to see Stef’s reaction to Skip being late and bringing Tiff. That’s no fun.

Steph, that’s going to back-fire in so many painful ways.

As a teen, I angrily said ‘fat chance’ to a boy who had been making my life hell, once. His parents heard it all yet, as usual, I was punished.

Time for Kip to punt Stef’s posterior through the proverbial goal posts.

If Kip stays with Steph he’s a villain too. And Luann needs to become interesting too. She may be the most boring one of all.

If you don’t like the writing, leave.

If Kip breaks up with Stef … we will never see Kip again.

I hope Dez doesn’t go into peacemaker mode. Irritating sometimes when she does that. Advocating peace and harmony is all well and good, but sometimes some people just need to be slapped. (or punched.)

What should have happened:

Stef: “And the Fat Fems are back in the dorm!”

Tiff: "Yes, we see you. But I don’t think you should call Kip a “fem.” From what I saw of him in his Speedo, he is anything but a fem." (all while a slow smile spreads across her face)

Stef is a totally clueless bubble brain with the good sense of an amoeba…

WHY is this strip still titled “Luanne”??

Tiff is in disbelief and upset—but she’s not retaliating in kind. And Kip sees the difference in behavior and all of them know it.

At a modern college campus, Stef could get into quite a bit of trouble for making anti-fat statements. This is one of those mute demonstrations that Karen Evans does not keep up with the times or merely refuses to acknowledge them. At many modern college campuses there is a female to male ratio of 65 to 35, such as EMU, a state university about 35 miles to the west of Detroit. All students are expected to attend brutal classes on aggressions, race, gender, and all the other transgressions of Western Civilization. Students in Russia, China, or France are just expected to learn math, biology, medical science, writing, or learn a skill. Ergo, Stef would find herself in front of some kangaroo court and be on the road to being expelled.

If the Luanne strip pulls your negativity strings to the point that you feel a need to comment about how you don’t like it, then I can only imagine how you are in real life.

Wait- what’s going on? Is this implying that the Quad 4 (or 3) is being reconstituted for ANOTHER semester? How does this work? You pay thousands of dollars to stay in a Moony dorm for a semester. Or maybe you get a full-ride scholarship that’s supposed to include dorm, until G&K change the nature of “full ride scholarship” and yank the benefits mid-term and now you’re “homeless”.

When you were a soph, you didn’t get along with ONE of your dormies, who accused you of being a thief, stirred up drama and sh**, and is an unpleasant person to live with.

Now a new semester starts, and that ONE troublemaker that makes dorm life unbearable is back? You pay thousands of dollars and the university forces you to live with a roomie you hate AGAIN? Is this a lottery and assignments are random, and it just so happens that the Dorm 4 (or 3) are coincidentally together? Or the U assumes that if you were together last semester and you WILL be together this semester and you have no say in it? You cannot CHOOSE your roomies?

Or are we to assume that Tiff and Dez (and maybe Bets) never complained and never requested to not share a dorm with Steff ever again?

Or am I smelling yet again a G&K illogical Plot Device to stir up drama for their amusement even if it makes no sense?

I call Hack Writer’s Gambit on this (look it up), as a possible explanation for the missing time. He might cover the events between the airport and the dorm in a series of flashbacks. Maybe. But to just leave it is… not good.

I’m still wondering why they allowed her to stay: Accusing Tiff of theft, the whole tent of ill repute situation, finding Puddles and dumping him on the girls. Why do they put up with her? Maybe Kip will finally see that his gf is a nasty piece of work and dump her. Maybe the airport hijinks is in another book up for sale.

All last week, the Old Grouch was wondering where the Big Misdirection went.

Turns out, the whole Kip-falling-for-Tiff thing was the misdirection/dead-end.

They have had at least one night back. Tiffany by herself, Kip and Stef together. Kip still seems he is ready to drop Stef at a moment’s notice.

Stef’s lipstick is somewhat over the top. Not there but a bit too close to the Joker for comfort.

Stef’s Spanx is several sizes too small. It is restricting blood supply to her brain.

All I am going to say is that if he doesn’t dump Stef soon I will be extremely disappointed in this story line and very disappointed with the strip as a whole.

I once said that both Bernice, and Stef could disappear, forever (and sometimes, Bets, with them), and I would not be sad, in the least.

Stef’s gibes may be insensitive (though they are in her catty way clever), but in the case of Tiffany they may provoke her to do some dieting and exercise, ’cause for someone who likes to think of herself as glamorous, she has gained a lot of weight….

She’s always made little not so subtle jabs at Tiffany’s weight in the past, but to stoop to this low behavior because you’re mad at your boyfriend (let’s face it Tiff and Steff were never friends) is not only immature but ugly and disgusting, but you looped Dez into this too and she JUST gave you $600 to help you out without asking for it back, the only reason you did (indirectly) was because Tiff and Kip made you!
